“Help me!” — Korea launches AI ‘tour butler’ at Naejangsan to boost safety and comfortCreatrip Team
a month ago
Korea Tourism Organization has deployed an AI-based service called ‘AI Gwangjibsa’ (AI tour butler) at Naejangsan National Park to improve safety and visitor convenience during the autumn foliage season. The system listens for distress calls in multiple languages, detects screams and loud noises to automatically alert a control dashboard with real-time location for faster rescue. It also monitors crowd density at busy spots (e.g., 108 Maple Tunnel) and cable car stations, analyzes parking congestion using drone footage plus Kakao settlement data, and redirects visitors to available nearby parking with TMAP navigation integration. The service offers multilingual guidance and route recommendations—Korean, English and Chinese navigation plus 37 languages for live interpretation and QR-code translations in 10 languages—and can suggest trails personalized by age, companion type and hiking frequency. Operated with five private AI firms and local park authorities, the pilot aims to address rising foreign hiker numbers driven by K-hiking trends and to create a scalable, sustainable tourism model that enhances safety and convenience.
