This weekend Gangneung offers a string of fall festivals: the 4th Gangneung Noodle Festival (Oct 30–Nov 2) around Wolhwa Street, the 17th Gangneung Coffee Festival (Oct 30–Nov 2) along Anmok Coffee Street by the beach, and the 27th Gyosan Heo Gyun Cultural Festival (Nov 1) in Chodang. The Noodle Festival features some 30 booths from local restaurants, young entrepreneurs and village cooperatives showcasing regional noodle dishes, a pairing zone for drinks and snacks, a noodle recipe contest, performances, family programs, and a traditional “buntteul” (wooden noodle press) hands‑on experience and tasting. A “Noodle Explorer” event gives souvenirs to visitors who collect five receipts from participating eateries across 153 noodle restaurants and coffee booths. The Coffee Festival serves free samples in a “Stars of Gangneung Coffee” tasting and offers quirky local brews like Italian moka pot, pepper affogato, Chodang tofu latte, roasted sweet potato latte and “bbada milky” (butter‑milk coffee). Visitors can enjoy kids’ playgrounds, coffee busking, night programs including “Starlit Night” with bonfire and stargazing, and talks like “Coffee & Humanities.” The Heo Gyun Cultural Festival honors the reformist writer Heo Gyun with memorial rites, a literary prize, an open stage for artistic messages (“I Have Something to Say SHOW”), hanbok (traditional clothing) experience, woodblock carving, book exhibits, tea gatherings and writing contests.
