298-Year-Old Stradivarius 'Vesuvio' Debuts in KoreaCreatrip Team
a month ago
The 1727 Stradivarius violin 'Vesuvio' is being shown in Korea for the first time at the 'Stradivarius Resonates at Deoksugung' exhibition in Seoul from Dec 1–21, part of the Korea-Italy cultural exchange. Crafted by legendary luthier Antonio Stradivari in Cremona, Italy, the instrument is named for its deep red varnish reminiscent of Mount Vesuvius. Vesuvio is noted for its sturdy yet elegant build, top-quality wood, and powerful low tones. It has passed through notable owners over centuries and returned to Cremona in 2005 after being donated by a late owner; the local community raised funds to cover inheritance taxes. The exhibition also features Korean traditional instruments such as the gayageum (a Korean zither) and the geomungo (a fretted zither) decorated with imperial iris motifs. Admission is free.
