Korean Hanwoo Beef Exports Begin to UAE, Entering $1.9B Halal MarketCreatrip Team
a month ago
South Korea has shipped Hanwoo (Korean native beef) to the United Arab Emirates for the first time. About 1.5 tons of chilled and frozen Hanwoo left from Incheon for the UAE after a departure ceremony at the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation. With UAE added, South Korea can now officially export Hanwoo to five markets: Hong Kong, Malaysia, Cambodia, Laos and the UAE. Officials say the UAE is a high‑income, import‑dependent beef market that already consumes Japanese beef—similar in price and quality—so demand for premium beef like Hanwoo is strong. The export launch will be paired with promotional activities: recruiting foreign tourist tasting groups, running culinary and food‑tour programs, and creating high‑spend visitor Hanwoo experience tours. The agriculture vice minister called the move a formal entry into the $1.9 billion halal market and pledged more local promotion and efforts to open additional markets through sanitary negotiations.
