Ivana Yemelkova, CEO of the Global Hydrogen Council, said at the APEC CEO Summit in Gyeongju that hydrogen offers a significant opportunity for South Korea and praised Hyundai Motor Company as playing a central role in the hydrogen industry. She emphasized the need for concrete action and warned that hesitation would undermine trust and stall market growth, noting 510 investments worldwide as the sector expands. Ivana highlighted Korea’s mix of government support and corporate long-term vision, despite a smaller domestic market compared with the U.S. and Japan. She attended the groundbreaking of Hyundai’s new fuel-cell factory in Ulsan, which will produce 30,000 fuel cells annually by 2027, and observed Hyundai’s hydrogen fuel-cell portfolio for ships, forklifts, and drones. Hyundai executives stressed hydrogen’s role in energy transition and the company’s leadership with achievements like the mass production of the Xcient heavy-duty hydrogen truck and leading sales of dedicated hydrogen vehicles.
