GS25, a convenience store chain run by GS Retail, has launched a frozen ready-meal called “Incheon Sinpo Dakgangjeong 220g” priced at 6,900 won. Convenience-store chicken sales have grown over 20% annually, with chicken RMR (Ready Meal Replacement) topping frozen processed food sales. The new product features spicy-sweet sauce-coated fried chicken thigh pieces with Cheongyang chili (a very spicy Korean pepper) topping and a special batter to keep crispness after microwaving. To celebrate the launch, GS25 offers a 1+1 promotion until next month’s 16th, effectively letting customers buy one for around 3,000 won. GS25 says affordable, high-quality chicken RMR appeals to customers avoiding high dine-out and delivery prices.
