Chilean theatre collective Colectivo Cuerpo Sur brings Last Hope to Seoul’s Modoo Arts Theatre from Nov 14–16. The play, co-created by company director Evana Garín and Dutch amateur actor Hilda Snippe—who has only 1% vision—explores how a person without normal sight experiences the world through other senses. Centered on Snippe’s long-held wish to travel the snowfields of the Andes, the performance shifts the stage from “places that are seen” to “places that are felt,” challenging visual-centric thinking (visual centrism) and highlighting the richness of multisensory memory and perception. Founded in 2019, the company addresses social themes like memory, identity and territory; this piece was developed after collaboration with an accessibility working group in Leeuwarden, Netherlands, chaired by Snippe. The invited venue, Modoo Arts Theatre, reopened in 2023 as South Korea’s first standard performance space for disabled artists under the Korea Arts & Culture Education Service (a cultural agency under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism).
