Ministry to Investigate Full Impact of R&D Budget Cuts Under Yoon GovernmentCreatrip Team
a month ago
South Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT will conduct a full investigation into damages caused by major R&D budget cuts under President Yoon’s administration and complete a detailed impact analysis by May next year. Minister Pae Kyung-hoon reported interim findings to a parliamentary committee, saying cuts have hit researchers—especially early-career (shinjin researchers) —hard, undermining trust and research stability. The ministry will carry out a two-stage probe: an immediate full survey of harms and a commissioned study this year to assess effects by May. Lawmakers criticized that some officials were rewarded for advancing the cuts and called for accountability and institutional reforms.
