Artist Kim Eun-jung (39) presents 'Words, Pictures' at Hakgojae gallery in Seoul’s Sogyeok-dong through Nov 8, featuring about 40 paintings that explore pre-linguistic sensation and existence. Using vivid color and layered scenes—animals, landscapes, and dreamlike elements—Kim often splits compositions across multiple vertical canvases (similar to spreading a book across two pages) so each panel can read independently yet form a larger whole. Works range from large, multi-panel pieces to smaller canvases that isolate figures from bigger scenes; one small painting affectionately depicts novelist Han Kang receiving the Nobel Prize. Kim, who studied at Hongik University and earned a master’s at Seoul National University of Science and Technology, aims for viewers to engage both intellectually and sensorially with her “poetic” paintings.
