In late August, four Pakistanis, including influencer Sonia Babar, claimed via Instagram to have summited Spantik (7,027 m), with Babar saying she was the first woman from Sindh province to reach the top. The Pakistan Alpine Club (PAC) investigated after a Spanish climber raised doubts. PAC concluded the summit claims by Sonia Babar, Amina Sighri, Mehbub Ali, and Amin Husebi were false, based on analysis of photos posted on social media. PAC has announced strict new rules requiring verification of summit claims before public sharing and warned of bans and fines for violations. Spantik is known as a relatively accessible peak (a three-day trek to base camp) but remains dangerous, with several fatalities and a 2024 incident that stranded three Japanese climbers. The mountain’s steep yellow northwest face is nicknamed the “Golden Pillar.” (Spantik, Pakistan Alpine Club, Sindh)
