Capturing Pyeongchang’s Calm: Lee Seon-yeol Solo ExhibitionCreatrip Team
a month ago
Korean ink-painting artist Lee Seon-yeol presents his 19th solo show “Landscapes of Gangwon” at Geumdang Art Gallery in Pyeongchang until the 31st. The exhibition focuses on Geumdang Mountain and Geumdang Valley, where Lee has lived for 16 years, translating daily encounters with nature into restrained ink landscapes (sumukhwa). Embracing the traditional East Asian belief that “an artist paints character,” Lee chose a life in harmony with nature. His works faithfully depict real scenery but avoid emotional dramatization; instead, he builds clear, orderly compositions through dots, lines and brushwork, layering ink calmly to convey a pure, understated sensibility. The restrained attitude toward nature and the artist’s honest simplicity are evident throughout the show.
