Traditional Ink Meets QR Codes: Korea Hosts Korea-China-Japan Calligraphy Exchange

The 2025 Korea-China-Japan Calligraphy Exchange opens at Seoul Arts Center’s Calligraphy Museum from May 31 to June 8, showcasing 132 works by leading calligraphers from the three countries. The exhibition contrasts tradition and modernity—examples include a work referencing “QR codes (二維碼)” and mixed-media pieces combining painting, seal carving, and calligraphy. Participating artists include 60 Korean, 50 Chinese, and 15 Japanese representatives, with events such as an international calligraphy forum and a cultural exchange for 200 experts and enthusiasts. Organizers aim to highlight the enduring beauty of brush, ink, and paper while exploring contemporary directions for calligraphy, debating what the art should express in an algorithm-driven era.
