Jeonju city will host the 2025 Jeonju Makgeolli Festival for two days starting Oct. 31 at Jeonju Vision University stadium. The festival celebrates makgeolli (traditional Korean rice wine) and local food culture, featuring popular makgeolli bars from Samcheon-dong’s makgeolli alley and a variety of anju (drinking side dishes). Traditional alcohol exhibits and hands-on experiences — including nuruk (fermentation starter) and brewers’ lees displays and filtering moju (home-brewed wine) — will be offered in cooperation with the Jeonju Traditional Alcohol Museum. Fun activities include a “Makgeolli Hunters” game, “Makgeollimpic” events (bottle-bowling and bottle-cap curling), fruit makgeolli and makgeolli cocktail shows for MZ generation attendees, fusion gugak (traditional Korean music) performances, and a nighttime EDM party. City officials say the festival aims to showcase Jeonju’s tastes and atmosphere while boosting the local economy and welcoming families and young people to a safe, lively event.
