Korean and Japanese Teens Revive Joseon Tongsinsa Spirit Through Six-Month Cultural ExchangeCreatrip Team
a month ago
Students from four high schools in Korea and Japan joined a six-month ‘New Tongsinsa Project’ to share culture and build friendship through video calls, vlogs, and a student-made documentary. The project—inspired by the historical Joseon Tongsinsa diplomatic missions—began with exchanges between Busan’s Chungnyeol High and Saitama’s Kaichi High, then expanded to include two more schools. Participants researched and presented on topics like school life, meals, after-school activities, traditions and hobbies, made a 15-minute documentary, and held online discussions and in-person performances, culminating in a “light domino” show tracing the old maritime route. The initiative emphasized the Tongsinsa value of “seongsin gyorin (誠信交隣)” (sincere friendship and trust) and will be featured in Japan’s UNESCO Week programs; a Japanese student delegation will visit Busan in December.
