Seoraksan National Park in Sokcho, Gangwon drew more than 36,000 hikers over the weekend as autumn colors reached their peak. About 15,000 visitors were at the park by 1:30 p.m. on the 26th, following 21,000 the previous day, with many enjoying colorful trails like the Cheonbul-dong (Thousand Buddhas) valley and viewpoints around Daecheongbong and Seorak-dong. Although the fall rains and low sunlight this season made leaf colors paler than usual, clear weekend weather attracted large crowds, causing traffic and packed parking at trailheads such as Baekdamsa. Park authorities temporarily closed access to Mireukjanggunbong after a roughly 3-ton rockfall damaged anchoring points; restoration and safety measures are underway.
