From Symbol of Division to Path of Peace: Walking the DMZCreatrip Team
a month ago
The Ministry of Culture and the Korea Tourism Organization held the “2025 DMZ Peace Trail Walk” in the Cheorwon area of the DMZ (Demilitarized Zone). Under the theme “from land of division to path of peace,” the event highlights the DMZ as a space for peace and life and aims to promote the Korea Dulle-gil (Korea Circumference Trail) walking network. The featured route was DMZ Peace Trail Course 16, a 21.2 km section from Durumi Peace Town to Namdaecheon Bridge that crosses former restricted civilian zones, passing relics like the Geumgangsan electric railway bridge and wartime supply routes alongside forests, wetlands, and migratory bird habitats. One hundred pre-registered participants walked a 7 km segment with guides; access to this Dulle-gil course is by reservation on Thursdays and Saturdays. Since opening in 2019, the DMZ Peace Trail has expanded across multiple counties and now covers 11 sections totaling 560 km. Officials say the project transforms a symbol of division into one of healing and reconciliation and plan to develop experiential programs combining ecotourism, history education, and restorative travel around the DMZ Peace Trail.
