At the Dongnae Eupseong History Festival in Busan, the Busan Science & Technology Council held a three-day Jang Yeong-sil celestial science fair at the Jang Yeong-sil Science Park. Designed for children and teens, the event drew families with about 5,000 visitors expected over the weekend. More than 50 science guides ran five hands-on booths featuring activities like a kaleidoscope (mini universe demonstrating light reflection and symmetry), a resin starcraft workshop, upcycling art, and making an Angbu-ilgu (sun clock) to learn traditional timekeeping. Restored Joseon-era astronomical instruments built by the famed local scientist Jang Yeong-sil—such as the Honcheongui (armillary sphere) and Angbu-ilgu—are displayed at the park with expert explanations that connect historical science to modern principles. Organizers plan to expand such fusion programs to boost the next 30 years of the festival.
