APEC leaders will gather in Korea for the first time in 20 years, and Gyeongsangbuk-do (Gyeongbuk) is staging large-scale night spectacles to celebrate. Major venues including Gyeongju’s Bomun Lake and Pohang’s Yeongildae Beach will host synchronized fireworks, drone shows, and multimedia performances from Oct 17–Nov 2. Pohang’s event (Oct 29) highlights the city’s steel heritage with a moving steel-robot performance called “IA-PI,” plus drone art and linked festivals like the Steel Art and seafood events. Hanwha, an official APEC sponsor, will produce the gala dinner show on Oct 31 with 50,000 fireworks and about 2,000 drones, blending ICT-driven aerial and water drones and media art to evoke Silla’s legacy and a forward-looking Korea. Gyeongju’s “Bomun Multimedia Show” (Oct 27 headline) features a 15m circular stage with lasers, LED, drones and fireworks; K-pop figure G-Dragon will appear on Oct 31. Organizers say the events aim to fuse Silla-era cultural heritage with modern technology to showcase regional beauty and Korean cultural sensibility. (Silla: an ancient Korean kingdom)
