The Chuncheon City Symphony Orchestra (principal conductor Song Yoo-jin) will hold a 40th anniversary concert at Chuncheon Culture & Arts Center on the 25th at 2 p.m. Founded in 1985 as Gangwon Province’s first municipal symphony, the orchestra has been led by founding conductor Lee Han-don (honorary professor at Kangwon National University) for 17 years, followed by Kim Yoon-sik, Baek Jeong-hyun, Lee Jong-jin, and current conductor Song Yoo-jin. Renowned for strong ensemble cohesion and frequent participation in orchestral festivals, the program features Song conducting Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings and founder Lee conducting works including “The Thieving Magpie Overture,” “Nostalgia,” “O Sole Mio,” and the Carmen Suite. Sopranos and baritones from Chuncheon, including Min Eun-hong and Oh Dong-kyu, will appear. After the concert, Lee will receive a merit plaque recognizing his contributions to the orchestra’s founding. (춘천문화예술회관: Chuncheon Culture & Arts Center)
