Kim Bong-cheon’s solo exhibition “Hidden (隱) and Revealed (顯)” runs at Gallery Dongwon Apsan until Oct. 29. The show presents about 20 works including ink-on-hanji (traditional Korean mulberry paper) pieces and brightly colored canvases. Kim explores the interplay of concealment and disclosure by physically removing layers—cutting and tearing dark top sheets to expose untouched white areas—so viewers can discover faces and other shapes emerging from the textures. Upstairs, monochrome hanji works use varied incision widths to create depth; some pieces intentionally leave torn traces to invite audience interaction. Downstairs, vibrant canvases show a shift toward enjoyment: layered colors, stencils, and vinyl techniques produce forms that suggest swimming fish or drifting leaves, often designed through digitally simulated lines that the artist bends and alters to reveal unexpected shapes. Kim says his aim is to spark curiosity and allow viewers to find their own interpretations in the hidden forms.
