Generations of Korean Ballet Unite in Seoul City Ballet’s 'Hans van Manen X Heo Yong-soon'Creatrip Team
2 months ago
Seoul City Ballet’s season finale pairs two contemporary works—Hans van Manen’s Kammerballe and Heo Yong-soon’s new Under The Trees’ Voices—bringing together three generations of Korean dancers who built international careers. Heo (a Swiss Zürich Ballet alumnus and choreographer) says she hopes audiences feel the excellence of Korean ballet up close. Kim Ji-young (Dutch National Ballet background) and Kang Hyo-jung (former Dresden Semperoper principal) join as dancers and artistic contributors. The double bill contrasts van Manen’s restrained, music-driven Kammerballe (Kammer means “small room”) with Heo’s colorful, emotionally charged piece inspired by Italian composer Ezio Bosso’s life and Symphony No.2. Costumes and video use vivid reds, pinks and blues to represent emotions; performers emphasize the importance of expression and musicality. Performances run Oct. 30–Nov. 2 at Sejong Center’s M Theater.
