Death Note Musical Kicks Off Successful Second Season with New CastCreatrip Team
a month ago
The Korean production of the musical 'Death Note' concluded previews (preview performances) to strong applause and has begun its second season. Based on the Japanese manga, the show depicts the battle between genius student Light Yagami and detective L over a supernatural notebook. The production earned praise for precise staging using LED effects and over 400 cue signals, immersive lighting that shifts between reality and the surreal, and a score blending classical, pop, and rock by composer Frank Wildhorn. A newly cast ensemble delivered standout performances: multiple actors portraying Light showed varied, intense interpretations; several actors playing L impressed with deep characterization; and supporting roles—Rem, Misa, and the Shinigami Ryuk—were praised for distinctive presence and vocal strength. Producer Shin Choon-soo said Korean musical production is moving toward long-running shows akin to Broadway/West End, and this season strategically cast rising stars to fuel a longer run. The main run opened at D-Cube Link Art Center on Oct 21 and will run through May 10 next year.
