A photo exhibition titled "Dialogue: A Fateful Meeting of Two Architects" opens Nov 6 at Yeonhui Jeongeum in Seodaemun, Seoul and runs through Feb 2026. The show explores the encounter between Korean modernist Kim Chung-up (김중업) and Swiss-French master Le Corbusier (르 코르뷔지에), who first met at a 1952 Venice artists’ meeting. Central works include photographs of Kim’s landmark 1962 French Embassy in Seoul (주한프랑스대사관) and rarely seen images of the Jinhae Naval Residence (진해 해군공관), highlighting traditional Korean roofs, strong columns, water-and-light spaces, and experimental details. Also featured are photos documenting altered or demolished works such as the Busan National University humanities building and the House of the Sun (태양의 집). French photographer Manuel Bugot contributes a Chandigarh series that reconnects Le Corbusier’s Indian project with Kim’s time drafting in his office. Designer Park Jong-sun installs furniture in the Yeonhui Jeongeum house (a repurposed old residence) to shift viewing into living experience. The exhibition spans two sites: Yeonhui Jeongeum (from Nov 6), where Kim’s own house functions as the exhibit, and the French Embassy (from Nov 7). Programs include artist talks with photographers and architects and a lecture on Kim’s ideas by Korea University’s Kim Hyun-seop. Visit the exhibition website for details and registration.
