The Ministry of Unification’s Inter-Korean Integrated Cultural Center is hosting a special exhibition by North Korean defector painter Sunmu (선무, age 53) from Oct 22 to Dec 31 in its first-floor special gallery. Sunmu, who defected in 1998 and entered South Korea in 2002, presents a series titled “My Thoughts” that uses azaleas (진달래) to express the pain of Korea’s division, along with paintings of Jeju landscapes and colored-paper sculptures. The show highlights the artist’s personal journey and reflections on separation and identity. (Seoul=Yonhap)
