The 31st Geoje Arts Festival, themed “A New Wave of Art, Sailing Geoje into the Future,” will take place for two days starting on the 25th at Jangsseungpo Waterfront Park’s special stage. Organized by the Geoje chapter of the Korean Federation of Arts and Culture Organizations, seven local branches—literature, fine arts, music, theater, popular entertainment, gugak (Korean traditional music), and film—will present a year’s worth of artistic work. The opening on the 25th at 6 PM features awards for distinguished artists, performances including painter An Nam-sook’s “New Wave, New Art Island,” the Andong Dance Association’s “Taepyeongmu,” Stella and the Geoje Haenyeo Cultural Arts Group’s “Haenyeo Story,” a civic play “From the Flag to Happiness,” and film OST pieces, followed by a fireworks show and short film screenings. On the 26th, events include a poetry recitation, gugak janggu drumming, the theater piece “I Like You,” vocal and piano ensembles, and a music festival called “Sympathy.” Additional activities at Jangsseungpo Community Center include postcard exhibitions and pottery (wheel-throwing) workshops, plus a poetry-and-art framed display running through the 30th. The festival is free and open to all, with performances and hands-on experiences at the waterfront stage and community center.
