Ilu Space (일우스페이스) in Seoul opens a group exhibition titled “Dust of the Basement” from Oct. 30 to Nov. 28, featuring works by Song Seung-eun, Im So-dam, Lee Yeon-sook, and Cha Hye-rim. The show uses the metaphors of “basement” (a concept borrowed from Gaston Bachelard's The Poetics of Space referring to the depths of the self) and “dust” (discontinuous fragments of memory) to examine how buried emotions and leftover memories resurface and rearrange. Song’s paintings visualize layers of time and micro-memories; Im presents planes and sculptures where sensory fragments slide across material and body; Lee offers installations and video probing place-memories shared by humans and non-humans; Cha mixes autobiographical narrative and otherness to compose unfinished scenes.
