Samsung Chairman Lee Jae-yong, honorary Leeum Museum chair Hong Ra-hee, and sisters Lee Boo-jin and Lee Seo-hyun attended a memorial concert on Oct. 20 at Samsung’s Yongin training center to mark the upcoming 5th anniversary of late Samsung Chairman Lee Kun-hee. About 900 guests including Samsung executives, employees, local residents and partners attended. Performers included pianist Park Jae-hong, cellist Han Jae-min (who receives instrument support from Samsung), and the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Before the concert Lee Jae-yong inspected a dedicated memorial space for Lee Kun-hee and later dined with senior executives; observers are watching for any strategic messages he may give amid global trade uncertainties. The family will hold a private memorial rite on Oct. 24 at Lee’s burial site in Suwon, followed by a luncheon at Samsung’s Changjo Hall (a training venue with a bust of Lee), continuing Samsung’s tradition of honoring Lee’s legacy and cultural philanthropy such as the Samsung Music Fellowship program.
