Hyundai Department Store Group’s fashion unit Hansome expects annual online transactions to top 400 billion won (about 4000억 원) for the first time this year, a more than 60% rise from 250 billion won in 2020. The company credits bold investments—such as the 2022 launch of the automated, online-only Smart Hub e-Biz logistics center (스마트허브 e비즈)—and a segmented “specialty-mall” strategy for the growth. The Smart Hub, built with about 50 billion won (500억 원) investment, triples handling capacity to 11 million orders a year, stores up to 920,000 garments, cuts order-to-shipment time by nearly half, and reduced mis-shipments by over 80% through automation like autonomous mobile robots. These improvements boosted conversion and repeat-purchase rates by roughly 20% and 30% respectively. Hansome runs three specialized online malls—including brand sites, an international fashion mall H-Fashion, and EQL, a mobile edit shop targeting customers in their 20s–30s—that helped drive growth; EQL is on track to exceed 100 billion won in transactions this year. Company executives say they will continue to leverage decades of fashion expertise and integrated online-offline services to stay competitive as global players enter Korea’s online fashion market.
