CNN included Korea’s winter street snack gyeran-ppang (egg bread) in its list of the world’s 50 best breads. The feature, compiled by pastry chef-turned-author Jen Rose Smith, highlighted breads that are memorable, diverse, and symbolic. Describing gyeran-ppang as a whole-egg baked bread often topped with ham, cheese, or chopped parsley, CNN called it a “treasure-filled” snack popular on Seoul streets, eaten for breakfast or anytime to provide energy during Korea’s long winters. The list also featured iconic breads from around the world, such as Uzbek non (naan-like flatbread), Russian karavay (wedding loaf), Italian ciabatta, and French baguette.
