‘Fatty Pork’ Controversy Returns in Jeju — Neck Meat (moksal) Served Half FatCreatrip Team
2 months ago
A tourist posted on an online forum that a Jeju black pork (heukdwaeji) restaurant served neck meat (moksal) that was about half fat, echoing last year’s outcry over excessively fatty samgyeopsal (pork belly). When the customer complained, staff said the fat was normally attached and portions matched weight. The incident has renewed criticism despite local efforts and inspections by Seogwipo city and agricultural authorities after previous “fat terror” complaints, including a viral claim that a paid samgyeopsal dish was over 98% fat. Tourists say such experiences are damaging Jeju’s dining reputation.
