Jeju Food Quality Issues Return — Fatty Pork and Sparse Gimbap Spark ComplaintsCreatrip Team
2 months ago
Jeju's food quality controversies resurfaced after a visitor posted photos of pork neck (moksal) laden with excessive fat and a portion of pork belly (ogyeopsal) also appearing overly fatty at a Seogwipo restaurant. The diner complained to staff but was told the fat was original to the cut and the portions met weight. Frustrated, the guest said they might not return. This follows a separate incident at the long-running Tamna Cultural Festival (Tamna Munhwajae), where gimbap (Korean rice rolls) priced at 4,000 won drew criticism for containing only a few fillings; sales were halted after the outcry. Jeju officials said local village groups manage some food stalls and that monitoring and inspections are underway, but acknowledged the controversies have dampened the festival atmosphere.
