On October 19, Gangwon Province’s four major national parks—Seorak, Odaesan, Chiaksan, and Taebaeksan—recorded a combined 34,524 visitors as peak autumn foliage attracted large crowds. Odaesan and Seoraksan each saw over 10,000 day visitors, while Chiaksan and Taebaeksan received several thousand and over a thousand visitors respectively. The surge in mountain hiking coincided with numerous fall festivals across the region, boosting local tourism and the economy. The Chuncheon Makguksu-Dakgalbi Festival (막국수·닭갈비 festival) alone reported cumulative attendance in the hundreds of thousands and an estimated economic impact of 10 billion won. Other events—such as the Kim Satgat Cultural Festival (김삿갓 문화제) and various autumn flower, pollack (명태), rice, and cultural festivals—also helped sustain Gangwon’s busy fall season.
