Professor Kim Joo-hyun, a pioneer in feminist aesthetics, curated a participatory exhibition "Self Art: Self-Portrait, Selfie, AI Performance" at Gallery Hub in Seoul from Oct 21–25 and Oct 28–Nov 1. The show has two parts: Part 1 ("Dressing Myself: Body Challenge Selfie Show") features 20 pre-selected participants aged teens to late 70s who collaborate with designers and artists to style themselves, photograph their looks, and generate AI portraits; Part 2 ("Seeing Myself: From Mirror to Interface") presents self-portraits by 10 artists focused on self-exploration. Kim frames grooming and appearance practices as daily political acts that express identity and challenge patriarchy, aiming to articulate a feminist aesthetics of appearance and imagine a move beyond patriarchy (가부장제).
