The Chuncheon Makguksu-Dakgalbi Festival (Makdak Festival) opened on Oct. 16 along the Gongjicheon river in downtown Chuncheon and drew large crowds by the weekend. Visitors enjoyed chicken ribs (dakgalbi) and buckwheat noodles (makguksu), live performances including popular YouTuber Tzuyang and singer Heo Gak, and family-oriented activities. Organizers added staff and about 100 extra dining tables, ran a “car-free festival” along the river, and featured 24 local farms selling seasonal produce and hands-on programs for families. Officials say the festival is helping strengthen Chuncheon’s food identity and plan to expand rest and hygiene facilities to finish the event successfully.
