35 Hearing-Impaired Youth Create Harmony: ‘A Gift to Us’Creatrip Team
2 months ago
A clarinet ensemble of 35 young musicians who regained hearing through cochlear implants will perform at the 20th annual concert hosted by Love’s Snail (Sarangui Dalpaengi), a Korean nonprofit supporting people with hearing loss. The program, themed “History,” features works from the ensemble’s two-decade journey and guest performances by singers Kim Tae-woo and Bae Da-hae; broadcaster and interpreter An Hyun-mo will MC and serve as a goodwill ambassador. Despite challenges in pitch, rhythm, and dynamics due to partial hearing via external devices, the members achieve harmony through long hours of practice—a performance An calls “a gift” that offers hope and healing. An urged stronger, ongoing public support for cochlear implant maintenance and speech rehabilitation—pointing out that Korea currently funds only a single device replacement while countries like the U.S., U.K., Australia, and Japan fully cover replacements every five years. The free concert is open to the public by registration on the charity’s website.
