The 27th Danyang Ondal Cultural Festival runs October 24–26 across Ondal Tourist Site and downtown Danyang. This unique festival celebrates the legendary Goguryeo general Ondal and Princess Pyeonggang, reinterpreting Goguryeo history through a victory parade (승전퍼레이드), street processions, night-time 삼족오 (samjok-o) lighting, and historical tours. Highlights include the Ondal-Pyeonggang victory march through town, an Ondal Fortress (온달산성) history tour, and a popular autumn-drive spot at Bobaljae offering scenic foliage and busking. Visitors can join 24 hands-on programs—traditional tea ceremony, dalgona candy making, making a Goguryeo crown, blacksmithing, fan and lantern workshops—and rent free Goguryeo costumes (2,000 pieces) to wear for immersive photos and walks. Performances range from folk music and tightrope acts to celebrity concerts featuring Taejin-ah, Park Mi-kyung, Bada, Hyun Jin-young, Jang Min-ho, and traditional rites closing the festival. Organizers promote the event as Korea’s only Goguryeo cultural festival, ideal for couples and families seeking history, culture, and autumn scenery.
