The Bank of Korea has decided to end its permanent exhibit “Thoughts and Walks—Connected Paths” 10 months early, moving the closing from October next year to the end of this year after criticism that the show featured works by artists with pro-Japanese (친일) ties during the Japanese colonial period. The museum will update artist biographies to explicitly note collaboration with colonial authorities and plans to consider options for dozens of other contentious works in its collection, including selling or long-term loans for research. The move follows lawmaker and public concerns about displaying art by figures listed in the Institute for Research in Collaborationist Activities’ directory (친일인명사전).
