Music-Theater 'Like Slurping a Bowl of Naengmyeon' to Play in Chuncheon and InjeCreatrip Team
2 months ago
Sokcho troupe ParamBul will stage the music-theater 'Like Slurping a Bowl of Naengmyeon' on May 18–19 at Chuncheon Puppet Theater and May 25–26 at Inje Haneul Naerin Center. Set in a Sokcho naengmyeon (Korean cold noodle) alley, the piece dramatizes the long-standing conflict and eventual reconciliation between a Pyongyang naengmyeon (Pyongyang-style cold noodles) shop and a kodari naengmyeon (pollock-based cold noodles) shop. Inspired by the tragic 1950 Buwol-ri massacre (an incident during the Korean War when disguised forces killed villagers), the production addresses 75 years of local wounds with warm, uplifting music and theater. The troupe aims to portray regional life and expand artistic imagination while highlighting Gangwon Province’s diverse arts scene nationwide.
