Prestigious Seoul-based Sol Opera Company stages Verdi’s Rigoletto at the Seoul Arts Center Opera House from Oct 31 to Nov 2. The production blends a rotating stage and video mapping to sharply shift spaces and visualize characters’ inner lives, keeping the traditional structure while pushing a contemporary sensibility. Marcello Mottadelli conducts, supported by the Prime Philharmonic Orchestra, Winner Opera Chorus and Jung Min-keun Dance Company. Creative leads include director Kim Sook-young, set designer Kim Dae-han, lighting by Kang Ho-sang, video by Bae Yoon-kyung and costumes by Kim Su-ryun. Cast features alternating leads including Alberto Gazale and Kang Hyung-gyu as Rigoletto, Kathleen Kim and Natalia Romani as Gilda, and Park Ji-min and Kim Jin-hoon as the Duke. The staging emphasizes the tragic arc—mockery becoming a curse, and revenge turning inward—using rotating sets and projections to make pivotal scene shifts visible so audiences feel the music and drama turn together. Performances: Oct 31 (8 PM) and Nov 1–2 (5 PM) at the Seoul Arts Center Opera House.
