Hong Kong’s flagship contemporary dance troupe, the City Contemporary Dance Company (CCDC), brings its innovative cross-media production 'Mr. Blank 2.0' to Seoul for the first international performance on May 24–25 at Gangdong Arts Center’s Grand Theater as part of 'Hong Kong Week 2025' (organized by Hong Kong’s Leisure and Cultural Services Department). The work blends dance, live video and digital design—using glass walls and live camera feeds to blur the line between observer and observed—and explores themes of surveillance, memory and identity in the age of algorithms and big data. Inspired by a character from Paul Auster’s story “A Journey into the Archives,” the piece stages a confined, camera-monitored environment where bodies and recorded images interact to reveal disorientation, isolation and moments of awakening. Directed and choreographed by Sang Jijia, the production teams emerging dancers with veteran creators and has earned strong critical recognition, including nominations at the Hong Kong Dance Awards and praise (and critique) from the South China Morning Post for its striking yet unsettling visual intensity. 'Mr. Blank 2.0' will perform in Seoul on May 24–25.
