National Library Exhibition Traces Korea’s Book Culture from Royal Shelves to Faker’s BookshelfCreatrip Team
2 months ago
The National Library of Korea opened a special exhibition, “My Dream, Our Records: The Korean Bookshelf,” for its 80th anniversary, displaying over 200 items including national treasures, rare first editions, and historical texts like Donguibogam (a classic Korean medical text), Seokbosangjeol (Buddhist scripture compiled for Queen Insu), and Sang-gyeojeongbon Jabi Doryangchambeop (a Buddhist ritual text). The show traces how books shifted from elite possession to popular, civic use—featuring sections such as royal shelves, women’s quilting-room collections, liberated-era and workers’ bookshelves, and a K-culture/’Hallyu fans’ shelf. Outside the main hall, the esports team T1 curated a small “T1 bookshelf” with titles chosen by star players including Faker (Lee Sang-hyeok), aiming to attract new readers. Due to preservation, some originals will be replaced by facsimiles after the opening; the exhibition runs through Dec. 14.
