K-'Chicken Belt' Proposed to Boost Korea's Food TourismCreatrip Team
2 months ago
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs held a meeting to advance K-food (Korean cuisine) tourism and discuss developing regional 'K-gastronomy belts.' The initiative, already creating themed belts like jang (fermented sauce) in Sunchang and Damyang, and traditional liquor in Andong, aims to add popular K-foods such as a 'chicken belt' that foreign visitors enjoy. Major players from food companies, travel agencies and local organizations attended. Some franchise examples include BBQ discussing a themed street in Yeoncheon and Kyochon creating a 'Kyochon1991 Culture Street' in Gumi. The ministry plans to formalize chicken-belt tourism products and set up a task force with experts and agencies to promote rural specialty industries. Officials said food represents cultural attraction and hopes local ideas will drive experiential food tourism growth.
