The 20th Sunchang Jang (fermented paste) Festival runs from Oct. 17–19 at the Sunchang Traditional Gochujang Folk Village and Fermentation Theme Park. Under the theme “Sunchang’s Colors Dye the World,” the three-day event offers hands-on programs like “Find the Golden Meju” (meju: fermented soybean brick), “Find the Jangchu King,” and a red pepper stem–plucking race, plus performances, a fireworks show, and a youth film festival. Visitors can sample local dishes such as gochujang bulgogi and shop directly from farmers at a specialty market. Organizers emphasize eco-friendly practices (reusable containers and waste separation), expanded shuttle buses, and strengthened safety measures. Chrysanthemum displays and photo zones will add autumn scenery. Officials hope the anniversary festival connects generations and showcases Sunchang’s deep jang flavors and fermentation culture.
