Hapcheon Meteorite Crater Pursues National Geopark Certification

Hapcheon-gun in South Korea is working towards having the Hapcheon Meteorite Crater, which formed about 50,000 years ago, certified as a national geopark. This site, the only meteorite crater in Korea, is considered a global scientific and geological heritage. The certification is seen as a chance to enhance educational and tourism potential. The application for candidacy is set to be completed by December, with aims for UNESCO Global Geopark designation following national certification expected in 2028.
