On October 12, the 2025 Korea-Japan Festival was held at COEX in Seoul. Korean Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Choi Hwi-young announced that efforts are underway to improve transportation and accommodation infrastructure to make it easier for visitors from Japan and other countries. The event aims to enhance cultural exchange and mutual understanding between the two nations. Japan's ambassador to South Korea, Koichi Marushima, emphasized the importance of cooperation on common social issues and promoting future-oriented relations. The festival, a joint effort by Korea and Japan, began in 2005 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of diplomatic normalization and has been held in both countries since 2009. This year's festival featured 57 booths, showcasing cultural and tourism aspects, although some criticisms regarding its stagnation have been raised.
