Rise in Rice and Egg Prices in South KoreaCreatrip Team
2 months ago
In the past year, the price of rice in South Korea has increased by 29%, with eggs also seeing a rise of about 15% in price. According to the Korea Agribusiness Data Service (KAMIS), the retail price of a 20kg sack of rice was 68,435 KRW on October 2nd, up from 52,980 KRW a year ago. Factors contributing to the price surge include depleted rice inventory and harvest delays due to rain. The government is taking steps like leasing rice to producers and organizing discount events to alleviate consumer burden. Additionally, the price of eggs has increased due to decreased production from heatwaves and aging hens.
