The former Namyeong-dong Detention Center, notorious for torturing pro-democracy activists during the 1970s and 80s, has been transformed into the Democracy Movement Memorial Hall. To celebrate its opening, various performances and exhibitions have been held, including the contemporary dance by choreographer Choi Sang-cheol titled 'Speaking to Democracy'. It will be restaged from the 15th to the 18th. This performance, praised for addressing the pain of state violence and issues of democracy, consists of 6 acts and incorporates immersive elements. The program marks the first collaboration between the Democracy Movement Memorial Foundation and the Korean Culture and Arts Committee after their MOU agreement. Future plans include workshops and various cultural exchange programs centered around the hall.
