To commemorate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between South Korea and Japan, the play 'Yakiniku Dragon' returned to the stage in Tokyo. Written and directed by Zainichi Korean playwright and director Chong Weeshin, it depicts the story of a family operating a yakiniku shop (grilled meat) near Osaka's Kansai Airport during 1969-71. Tackling themes of discrimination faced by the Zainichi community, the play received acclaim across Japan and South Korea, with audiences moved by its emotional depth. It features a hybrid cast from both countries and includes cultural elements such as traditional Korean food and merchandise that resonated well with the Japanese audience.
