KAIST's 'AI Nushu' Wins International Media Art AwardCreatrip Team
2 months ago
A team at Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) has created a media art installation that combines artificial intelligence with Nushu, the world's only women-specific script. This project, developed in collaboration with the RCA's Ali Asadipour, won the Honorary Mention in Digital Humanity at the Prix Ars Electronica 2025 in Austria. Nushu, originating in 19th century Hunan, China, was created by women who were excluded from formal education and used it for communication. This innovative installation interprets Nushu's themes through computational linguistics, allowing viewers to experience the creation of new languages by AI, challenging the notion that only humans can invent languages.
