Is the 5-Second Rule a Myth?Creatrip Team
2 months ago
The 5-second rule, which suggests that food dropped on the floor is safe to eat if picked up within five seconds, is examined in this news. Despite its cultural prominence, results from a scientific experiment led by Professor Paul Dawson at Clemson University show that food is immediately contaminated by bacteria, regardless of time. While historical anecdotes and popular culture have perpetuated the rule, the study found contamination occurs right away. Factors like surface cleanliness, food type, and health conditions of the person consuming the food should guide decisions. To prevent food poisoning, it's best to discard dropped food, says Dawson.
